Emmanuel Naah was born in Douala, Cameroon in 1947. He holds a M.Sc. in Geology from the University of Paris VI, 1973, as well as a Diploma (Dipl.) on Specialized Studies in Hydrogeology in 1974. He obtained his Dipl. Ing. (Surface Hydrology) from ORSTOM in 1976, a PhD in Hydrogeology and Hydrology from the University of Paris VI in 1979 and Dr. d'Etat in Sciences from the University of Yaounde, Cameroon in 1990.
Between 1976 and 1980, he was a senior researcher at the Institute for Geological and Mining Research in Cameroon. From 1980 to 1993, he was Director of the Hydrological Research Center and Chief of the Hydrological Programme in Cameroon. From 1993 to 1994, he was Deputy Director of the Division of Technical and Research Co-operation at the Ministry of Technical and Scientific Research in Cameroon.
Mr Naah gained wide international experience on project management, particularly in the areas of hydrogeology, hydrology and water resources management and environmental sciences in West Africa. He served as co-ordinator of several national and regional projects in the framework of national programmes, bilateral co-operation, UN organizations (IAEA, WMO, UNDP) and intergovernmental organizations (LCBC, NBA). He also carried out teaching and training activities and served as scientific director to students working towards M.Sc. and PhD degrees. He has published and has been co-editor of numerous reports, articles on hydrogeology, surface hydrology and water resources management.
Since 1994, Mr Naah is the Regional Hydrologist and Programme Specialist in Water and Environmental Sciences at the UNESCO Office in Nairobi. In this capacity he is responsible for the implementation of the IHP and the preparation and design of regional projects and activities on hydrology and water resources.
